Shawna McComber Fine Art
Hello and welcome. I am a self-taught artist living on Vancouver Island. For years I tossed out or painted over my work and didn't give much thought to selling paintings as I have not got the ability to run a small business. I live with ME/CFS and Lupus, I have ADHD, Generalised Anxiety Disorder and I am autistic. These conditions profoundly affect my life and my painting practice but I do not believe in hiding them. They are inseparable from who I am.
I paint to say things that I do not have words for. I paint to find out what I am thinking and feeling.
I paint because it is the only time I am both excited and relaxed, because everything ceases to exist except the paint and the painting. Even I do not exist when I am painting.
I paint because my sensory needs include swooshing and swiping creamy paint around and because I have a lifelong interest in colours and colour theory.

I paint with joyful colours and increasingly I forgo shadows.
